Farmer Gopal Upreti from Ranikhet Grows the Longest Cilantro, Sets World Record

Today, we will share the story of Gopal Upreti, a farmer from Tadikhet, Virlekh in Ranikhet. Gopal Upreti’s name has been included in the Guinness Book of World Records. He has grown cilantro that has set a world record for its length. Farmer Gopal Upreti practices organic farming. Using this method, he grew cilantro that reached a length of 7 feet 1 inch, which is a world record.

Record Acknowledgment by Guinness World Records

Gopal Upreti, a resident of Tadikhet, Virlekh in Ranikhet, had his name included in the Guinness Book of World Records on April 21, 2020. About two months later, he was officially informed about it. Cilantro is commonly used in every household and usually does not grow more than 14-15 inches. Gopal Upreti has been practicing organic farming for about 9 years. In 2019, he planted cilantro in a polyhouse, covering approximately 10 nalis of land.

Surprising Growth and Social Media Attention

A few months later, as the cilantro began to grow, it surprised everyone. The tallest cilantro plant grew to a record height of 7 feet 1 inch. Farmer Gopal posted about it on Facebook. During this time, a user suggested that he should get it recorded. Gopal approached the Guinness Book of World Records. Agricultural department officials also visited his farm to measure the cilantro. Previously, the Guinness record was held by a cilantro plant that was 5 feet 9 inches tall. Gopal Upreti broke this record with his 7 feet 1 inch tall cilantro plant.

Promoting Organic Farming for Better Profits

Gopal Upreti believes that promoting organic farming is extremely important. He attributes his success to this method. He mentioned that no matter how big the cilantro grows, its aroma does not diminish. Farmers can earn good profits by growing cilantro. He also grows ginger, various vegetables, and organic apples, which are sold in the markets of Delhi.
