Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s tourism is moving beyond religious and traditional tourism, venturing into adventure tourism under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. To empower the youth through adventure sports, the state government has initiated a program to provide free paragliding training to over 700 young people. Chief Minister Dhami stated that the aim of this initiative is to establish Uttarakhand as a leading state in the field of adventure tourism.
Bhimtal in Nainital district and Maldevta in Dehradun are emerging as hubs for paragliding. Observing the potential for adventure sports, the tourism department is not only developing new spots but also offering free training to local youth, providing them with employment opportunities. Trained youth will not only be able to earn a livelihood through their skills but also attract tourists, thereby promoting tourism in the state. The government’s initiative aims to enhance tourism on a broader scale and make adventure sports safer.
The government has launched five courses in basic to guided paragliding in 15 batches in Tehri. These courses will provide training, along with accommodation and food facilities, all free of charge. The first phase aims to train 741 young individuals, including 124 women. Chief Minister Dhami emphasized the vast potential for self-employment in adventure sports like paragliding, white-water rafting, and mountaineering. His goal is to transform the state into a center for trained human resources in adventure tourism over the next few years, ensuring that adventure tourism thrives and remains safe.
