Big Relief for Electricity Consumers in Uttarakhand: CM Announces 50% Subsidy on Electricity Bills

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami delivered a significant relief to the residents of the state on Monday, 16th September. The state government announced a 50% subsidy for consumers using up to 100 and 200 units of electricity. This scheme is expected to benefit approximately 11.50 lakh consumers in the state, offering substantial financial relief, especially for middle and lower-income families.

Subsidy for Low Electricity Consumption

Chief Minister Dhami made this announcement during a program held at Seva Sadan, located at the Chief Minister’s residence in Dehradun. The event also saw the distribution of possession letters to beneficiaries of houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Roorkee. Additionally, several key initiatives by the Energy Department were inaugurated. The Chief Minister stated that consumers using up to 100 units of electricity in the plains and hilly areas of the state would receive a 50% subsidy. For consumers in the high Himalayan regions, the subsidy will apply to those using up to 200 units of electricity. This benefit will be available only to consumers with an electrical connection of up to 1 kilowatt.

Relief for Himalayan Regions with 50% Subsidy on 200 Units

On his birthday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also inaugurated several other development projects. He laid the foundation stones for 5 major projects under Pitkul, including the construction of a 220 kV GIS substation in Selaqui and 132 kV GIS substations in Aragarh, Lohaghat, Dhaulakhera, and Khatima II. These projects aim to improve the electricity supply and distribution in the state.

Major Development Work with a Budget of Rs. 977 Crore

During the event, the Chief Minister also initiated UPCL projects for installing 16 lakh smart meters in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions, under the centrally funded RDSS scheme. Additionally, work was started on laying underground power lines along the major routes of Dehradun city under the ADB-funded Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Power System Development Project. These projects are estimated to cost around Rs. 977 crore and will improve the stability and quality of electricity supply in the state.

Beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana Receive House Possession

The Chief Minister handed over possession letters and keys to 101 beneficiaries of the Lakshmi Awas Yojana in Shikarpur, Roorkee, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He emphasized that the state government is working rapidly in all sectors to ensure sustainable development for Uttarakhand. The newly inaugurated power projects will not only improve the state’s energy supply but also promote industrial growth, leading to increased employment opportunities. The installation of smart meters will streamline the energy supply and address billing-related issues for consumers.
