Dehradun, Uttarakhand: Bringing good news for the people of Uttarakhand, the Railway Ministry has approved the increase in frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express (15019/15020). The train, which earlier ran once a week, will now operate three times a week, making travel between the Garhwal and Kumaon regions smoother and more convenient.
CM Dhami’s Request Leads to Approval
The decision came after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on 8 October 2025, where he requested an increase in the frequency of the train service. Acting swiftly on the CM’s appeal, the Railway Ministry issued the official order to operate the Tanakpur–Dehradun rail service three times a week.
New Train Schedule Announced
According to the new timetable, the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express (15019) will now run on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, while the Tanakpur–Dehradun Express (15020) will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This new schedule is expected to benefit thousands of passengers, especially devotees traveling to Purnagiri Dham and those commuting between the Garhwal and Kumaon regions.
A Step Toward Better Rail Connectivity
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his gratitude to the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Railway Board for their prompt response. He stated that the state government, with the support of the central government, is continuously working to strengthen Uttarakhand’s rail network. The aim is to provide safe, comfortable, and improved transportation facilities to all passengers in the state.
This decision marks another important step in improving inter-regional connectivity and promoting tourism and economic activities across Uttarakhand.
