Dehradun: Uttarakhand has received a significant gift from the central government on the occasion of the first Navratri, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply for the residents during winter. The central government has increased the additional power quota allocated to Uttarakhand by 180 megawatts and extended the duration until June 30, 2025. Previously, on September 26, the central government had allocated 300 megawatts of additional power to the state until March 31, 2025. With this increase, a total of 480 megawatts of power will now be supplied to Uttarakhand from the central pool. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for this development.
To address the electricity crisis, Chief Minister Dhami had earlier met with Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to request additional power allocation from the central pool for the state. He informed the minister that the gap between electricity demand and availability in the state was continuously widening. The state government is working on a long-term plan to boost electricity production through solar energy, hydropower, and coal-based power generation to mitigate future electricity crises.
Due to Chief Minister Dhami’s effective advocacy, the center has increased the power quota for Uttarakhand. In winter, electricity supply is often affected by snowfall and decreased production from hydropower projects. However, with the increase in the additional quota from the central pool, consumers can now expect an uninterrupted power supply even during the winter months.
