Dehradun: On Monday, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, paid tribute by laying a wreath at the Shaheed Smarak in Dehradun, honoring the martyrs of the Uttarakhand state movement. The event coincided with the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, as well as the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The minister emphasized the importance of cleanliness, noting that this campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, aims to spread awareness about cleanliness across the nation.
Cleanliness Drive and Tree Plantation at Gandhi Park
Following this, Shri Rijiju participated in the main event at Gandhi Park, where he paid tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. He joined others in sweeping the area to promote the message of cleanliness and planted a Rudraksha sapling as part of the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign. During the event, the minister also honored individuals who have made outstanding contributions in various fields, appreciating their efforts toward social welfare. He expressed his deep connection to the state of Uttarakhand and praised its natural beauty.
Success of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Future Plans
During the program, Shri Rijiju remarked on the success of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, highlighting how the campaign has brought cleanliness awareness to every household under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He mentioned the removal of the old garbage dump at Naishvilla Road in Dehradun as a significant achievement for local residents. Additionally, the minister outlined several other key projects underway in Uttarakhand, such as the reconstruction of Kedarnath and the Delhi-Dehradun four-lane highway project, which are driving new avenues of development in the state.
