Unprecedented Expansion of Rural Roads by Dhami Government, 35 New Villages Connected to Road Network

Dehradun: During the three-year tenure of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, the rural road network in Uttarakhand has significantly expanded. Under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), a total of 519 new roads, spanning 1,481 kilometers, have been constructed in the state, connecting 35 new villages with a population of over 250 to the road network. This expansion has made travel easier in rural areas, providing local residents with improved connectivity.

Upgrade of 159 km of Existing Roads
The Dhami government has not only constructed new roads but has also upgraded 61 rural roads with a total length of 159 km. Additionally, 195 bridges have been built. The total expenditure for these projects has reached ₹2,310 crores. Through this scheme, 35 villages with a population of over 250 have been connected to the road network, providing residents with relief in travel and opening new avenues for development.

Preparations for the Third Phase of PMGSY, Upgrading 2,288 km of Roads
The first and second phases of PMGSY have been completed, and the government has received approval for ₹1,824 crores for upgrading previously constructed roads in the third phase, covering a total of 2,288 km. Furthermore, under the Vibrant Village scheme, an approval of ₹119 crores has been received to connect eight settlements that lack road access.

Historic Contribution of the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana
The Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana was launched in 2000 by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with the primary objective of connecting rural areas to roads. In Uttarakhand, a total of 2,329 roads and 312 bridges have been completed under this scheme, with an expenditure of ₹10,183 crores. So far, 1,846 villages have been connected to the road network. Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami praised this scheme, stating that under the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, rapid progress is being made to connect villages with roads, and the government is committed to ensuring that every village has road access.
