USDMA Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri; Honors Disaster Management Staff

Dehradun: The birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri were solemnly observed today at the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA). On this occasion, Additional Chief Executive Officer (Administration) of USDMA, Mr. Anand Swaroop, offered floral tributes to the portraits of both the great leaders. Following this, officials and staff of USDMA, Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Centre, and U-Prepare paid their respects to the two distinguished figures.

Remembering Mahatma Gandhi’s Ideals
In his address, Additional Chief Executive Officer Mr. Anand Swaroop highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution, stating that Gandhi ji introduced a new path of non-violent resistance during India’s struggle for independence. He believed that even the greatest powers could be defeated through truth and non-violence. His principles continue to inspire us to remain steadfast in our beliefs and show love and empathy towards others.

Joint Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mohammad Obaidullah Ansari also shared his thoughts on the occasion, noting that Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions were not limited to India alone; he taught the world the values of humanity, equality, and peace. Mr. Ansari emphasized that we must adopt Gandhi ji’s ideals and work towards building a better society.

Honoring Disaster Management Staff for Their Service During Monsoon
During the event, employees working 24×7 at the State Emergency Operations Centre were also honored. Mr. Anand Swaroop presented certificates of appreciation to master trainers, data entry operators, police wireless operators, forest wireless operators, ERSS 112 personnel, multipurpose workers, and sanitation workers stationed at the control room. He praised their crucial role in facilitating smooth information exchange during various disasters in the monsoon season, enabling effective relief and rescue operations. Director of ULMMC, Mr. Shantanu Sarkar, was also present at the occasion.
