Dehradun: With the onset of the festive season and holidays in educational institutions, Uttarakhand Roadways is witnessing a sudden increase in the number of passengers. To manage the growing rush, the transport department has decided to deploy additional buses on major routes including Delhi, Bareilly, Haldwani, Moradabad, and Agra. Both Volvo and ordinary buses have been increased, especially on the Delhi route, to ensure that travelers reach their destinations comfortably.
Additional Buses Deployed on Major Routes
+On regular days, 18 Volvo buses were operated from Uttarakhand to Delhi, which has now been increased /*to 22. The number of ordinary buses on this route has also been raised from 4 to 6. In total, more than 30 ordinary and 22 Volvo buses are now running towards Delhi. Three extra buses have been added on the Bareilly route, while Haldwani now has seven buses instead of five. Similarly, two additional buses have been deployed on the Moradabad route, and one extra bus has been introduced for Agra.
Steps Taken for Passenger Convenience
According to Roadways officials, around 62 buses usually operate on these routes daily. However, due to the festive rush, the number has been temporarily increased for the convenience of passengers. On Friday, the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Dehradun witnessed long queues of people waiting for tickets. The crowd grew so large that many passengers had to wait for hours. The situation became more difficult for those heading to the hilly areas, where the number of available buses was limited.
Temporary Chaos Due to Overcrowding
When officials received complaints about passengers facing trouble in getting buses to Rishikesh, they immediately arranged additional buses for the route. Authorities stated that buses for Rishikesh are operated every five minutes, and up to seven buses were continuously running to meet the demand. However, the sudden rise in passengers caused some temporary chaos at the station.
Plan to Increase Buses for Hilly Regions
The Roadways administration has announced that more buses will be added if passenger numbers continue to rise. Officials assured that, similar to the Delhi and other plains routes, the number of buses will also be increased for hilly areas to prevent inconvenience to travelers. The initiative by Uttarakhand Roadways to introduce extra buses during the festival season is being welcomed by passengers. However, the shortage of buses on mountain routes still remains a challenge. The department has made it clear that the bus services will continue to expand in response to passenger demand.
