Champawat: In a significant step toward strengthening higher agricultural education in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the establishment of a new agriculture university in Champawat, similar to Pantnagar University. The announcement was made during a program held at Sharda Ghat in Tanakpur on Friday. The new university is expected to play a crucial role in promoting advanced agricultural research, innovation, and education for youth in the hilly regions of the state.
CM Dhami emphasized that the proposed university will not only enhance agricultural learning but also create local employment opportunities by connecting students, farmers, and researchers. He added that it would empower farmers with modern techniques, leading to sustainable and profitable farming practices.
Inauguration of Projects Worth ₹20.50 Crore
During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 10 key development projects worth ₹20.50 crore. These projects span across various sectors, including infrastructure, flood management, and rural development, which will significantly improve living conditions and boost local economies.
He further highlighted that the government is committed to ensuring the timely completion of these projects to benefit the people directly. The development works are expected to strengthen connectivity, improve basic amenities, and enhance agricultural resilience in the district.
Flood Protection and Relief Works in Chhinigoth
A major part of CM Dhami’s announcement focused on flood protection measures in the Chhinigoth area and surrounding regions. The Chief Minister stated that during the monsoon season, these areas often face heavy damage due to flooding, leading to loss of agricultural land and public property. With the commencement of new flood protection and relief projects, the region will witness enhanced safety and preparedness during heavy rains.
He added that these works would reduce flood-related losses, ensure the safety of villages, and protect valuable agricultural fields. This initiative also reflects the government’s proactive approach to disaster management and environmental protection.
Balanced Development and Vision for a Model District
Chief Minister Dhami reiterated that the government’s vision is to ensure balanced growth across all sectors — education, health, employment, and horticulture. He mentioned that the establishment of the agriculture university and the launch of multiple development projects represent a step toward making Champawat a model district of Uttarakhand.
He further said that the government is determined to bring holistic development to every part of the state, ensuring that even remote regions benefit from modern infrastructure and educational opportunities. The event saw enthusiastic participation from local representatives, farmers, and citizens, who welcomed these initiatives as a new chapter of progress for Champawat district.
