CM Dhami inaugurates Himalayan O2 Tehri Lake Festival 2026 to boost tourism and adventure sports in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand tourism, Tehri Lake Festival, adventure sports: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Himalayan O2 The Tehri Lake Festival 2026 at Tehri Lake in Tehri Garhwal district. The four day festival which will run from March six to March nine aims to promote tourism adventure sports and local culture in the Himalayan region. The event witnessed participation from officials tourists local residents and adventure sports enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the natural beauty and tourism potential of the area.

During the inauguration ceremony the Chief Minister highlighted that Tehri Lake has emerged as one of the most promising destinations for water and adventure tourism in India. He said that events like the Tehri Lake Festival help showcase the unique landscapes culture and hospitality of Uttarakhand to visitors from across the country and abroad.

Focus on adventure sports and tourism promotion

The festival features a wide range of adventure sports activities including jet skiing kayaking water rafting mountain biking and trekking along scenic Himalayan trails. Various competitions and cultural programmes are also being organised as part of the celebration including photography contests fashion shows music events and culinary competitions for participants and visitors.

Officials said that the festival is designed not only to promote tourism but also to encourage youth participation and create opportunities for local businesses connected with hospitality travel and outdoor sports. The event also highlights the breathtaking landscape of the Tehri region which lies in the Himalayan belt and attracts travellers interested in nature and adventure.

Development plans announced for Tehri region

On the occasion the Chief Minister also spoke about the government vision to develop Tehri as a major hub for tourism and sports. He expressed confidence that the Tehri Lake area will become an internationally recognised destination for adventure tourism in the coming years.

To support tourism growth the government announced infrastructure initiatives including plans for a ropeway connecting Koti Colony with New Tehri and the foundation stone for the Koti Dobra tourism route project. These developments are expected to improve connectivity and encourage more visitors to explore the scenic Himalayan region.

Tehri Lake emerging as a tourism hotspot

Tehri Lake which is one of the largest man made lakes in Uttarakhand has rapidly gained popularity for water sports and adventure tourism. The lake surrounded by the Himalayan landscape provides an ideal location for boating kayaking parasailing and other outdoor activities making it a major attraction for tourists visiting the state.

With the organisation of large scale events such as the Himalayan O2 Tehri Lake Festival the state government aims to strengthen Uttarakhand position as a year round tourism destination while also promoting local culture environment awareness and community participation.
