White Tiger: Dehradun Zoo: Indian Wildlife: Visitors to the Dehradun Zoo will now be able to see Tejas, a rare blue eyed, white tiger. Tejas has been brought to Dehradun from the Gandhi Zoological Park in Gwalior. Distinguished by his white coat, dark stripes, and blue eyes, Tejas is said to be the first white tiger ever brought to Uttarakhand.

A Journey of Over 500 Kilometers

Tejas was transported from Gwalior to Dehradun by road in a special vehicle, accompanied by a team of experts from the Forest Department and the zoo. Following this long journey, he has been placed in a special enclosure at the Dehradun Zoo.

Monitoring During Acclimatization

Tejas will not be immediately put on public display upon his arrival in Dehradun. He will be kept in isolation for approximately twenty days to monitor his health and behavior as he adjusts to the new environment. A team of veterinarians and caretakers will continuously monitor his health.

According to officials, Tejas will only be displayed to the public after the quarantine and acclimatization processes are complete. Consequently, visitors to the zoo may have to wait about a month to catch a glimpse of him.

Transfer Under Tiger Exchange Program

The transfer of Tejas to Dehradun was carried out under a tiger exchange program. As part of this initiative, Bhola, a Royal Bengal Tiger, was sent from the Dehradun Zoo to Gwalior, thereby completing the wildlife exchange process between the two zoos.

White Tigers Are Not a Separate Species

White tigers are often mistaken for a separate species, but this is not the case. Their white color is the result of a rare genetic trait. They possess dark stripes on their bodies, and their eye color may appear different from that of ordinary tigers. Tejas is distinguished by his white coat, dark stripes, and blue eyes. Since arriving at the new enclosure, he has shown active interest in exploring his surroundings and inspecting the enclosure itself.

A New Attraction for Dehradun Zoo

The arrival of Tejas has added a new attraction for wildlife enthusiasts at the Dehradun Zoo. However, priority is being given to his health and his acclimatization to the new environment before he is introduced to the public.

According to the zoo administration, Tejas will be monitored regularly, and he will be put on public display only after all necessary health checks have been completed.
