Chhath Holiday 2025: Local Holiday Declared in Udham Singh Nagar on 27 October

Udham Singh Nagar: The district administration has announced a local holiday on the occasion of Chhath Puja, one of the most significant festivals in the region. According to the official order, 27 October 2025 (Monday) will be observed as a local holiday across the district. This decision comes as a change from the previously declared date of 28 October 2025 (Tuesday).

Holiday Applicable to Government and Educational Institutions

As per the notification issued by District Magistrate Nitin Bhadauria, all government, semi-government offices, private schools, Anganwadi centres, and educational institutions within the district will remain closed on the day of Chhath Puja. The holiday has been declared under the provisions of Para-247 of the Manual of Government Orders (Revised) 1981, which authorizes district magistrates to announce up to three local holidays in a year.

Treasuries and Banks to Function Normally

The order also specifies that the local holiday will be applicable only to government offices. Financial institutions such as treasuries, sub-treasuries, and banks are excluded from the purview of this holiday. Therefore, all banking and treasury operations will continue as usual on 27 October 2025.

Chhath Puja: A Festival of Faith and Devotion

Chhath Puja is a major Hindu festival dedicated to Sun God (Surya) and Chhathi Maiya, symbolizing gratitude, purity, and devotion. Celebrated with great enthusiasm, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Uttarakhand, the festival involves offering prayers to the rising and setting sun near water bodies.
