Floriculture success, self employment Uttarakhand, rural entrepreneurship: In the quiet hills of Nainital district, a young man chose a path less taken and turned it into a story of inspiration. Kamlesh Mahtoliya, a resident of Paharpani in Dhari block, has emerged as a strong example of self reliance. After completing a diploma in engineering and working in Gujarat, he made a life changing decision to return to his village, driven by his connection to his land and family.

Choosing a Different Path in Agriculture

Instead of following traditional farming practices, Kamlesh decided to explore new possibilities. His vision was clear, to do something innovative that could create better income and opportunities. At this crucial stage, he received financial support of around fourteen lakh rupees through government welfare schemes facilitated by the horticulture department. This support became the foundation of his entrepreneurial journey.

Turning Barren Land into Blooming Fields

With determination and planning, Kamlesh transformed unused land into productive farmland. What began as a small effort on ten nali land has now expanded to forty nali of advanced flower cultivation. He grows high value flowers such as lilium, along with oriental and asiatic varieties, which are in increasing demand across markets. His farm today stands as a vibrant example of how innovation can redefine agriculture in hill regions.

Expanding into High Value Crops

Not limiting himself to floriculture, Kamlesh further diversified his work. On thirty nali land, he cultivates fruits like apple, kiwi, and strawberry. This combination of flowers and fruits has strengthened his business model, ensuring both stability and higher returns. His produce is now reaching not only local markets but also nearby districts, reflecting growing demand and trust in his quality.

Kamlesh’s success is not just personal, it is community driven. His enterprise has created stable employment for eight to ten local people, offering them income opportunities within their own village. In regions where migration is a major concern, such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening rural livelihoods and reducing dependency on cities.

After managing all expenses, Kamlesh now earns nearly two lakh rupees every month. This steady income highlights the potential of modern agriculture when combined with the right guidance and support. His journey shows that farming, when approached strategically, can be both profitable and sustainable.

Government Support as the Backbone of Success

Kamlesh credits his achievements to the schemes introduced by the Uttarakhand government and the leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami. He acknowledges that without financial assistance and technical guidance, building such a venture would have been difficult. Government initiatives aimed at promoting self employment and agriculture are now creating visible change on the ground.
