Haldwani: Uttarakhand: Kiran Joshi: Women Empowerment: Dhami Government: Under the leadership of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, government initiatives aimed at strengthening Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are creating meaningful change in the lives of women at the grassroots level. These schemes are not only promoting financial inclusion but are also empowering women to become self-reliant. A shining example of this transformation is Kiran Joshi from the Haldwani development block of Nainital district.
Financial Support Becomes the Foundation of Self-Reliance
Kiran Joshi is actively associated with a Self-Help Group and received crucial support under the Dhami government’s empowerment programs. Through a cooperative bank, she was sanctioned a loan of ₹3,00,000, which became a turning point in her journey toward self-employment. This financial assistance gave her the confidence and resources to turn her aspirations into reality.
Blending Tradition, Skill, and Entrepreneurship
After receiving the loan, Kiran Joshi began producing traditional hill-based products while transforming her artistic skills into a sustainable business. She now prepares pure and locally sourced items such as herbal tea, raita masala, cucumber and moong dal bari, and traditional Pahadi Pisi Noon. Alongside this, she also creates traditional paintings on silk, promoting Uttarakhand’s rich folk art and cultural heritage.
Growing Markets and Rising Income
Kiran sells her products through online platforms, local markets, and by setting up stalls at fairs and exhibitions. These efforts have helped her Self-Help Group generate an annual income of approximately ₹7 to ₹8 lakh. Today, she is not only financially independent but has also become a source of inspiration for many other women aspiring to start their own ventures.
Government Schemes Making a Real Impact
This success story clearly demonstrates that the Dhami government’s women empowerment and self-employment schemes are not limited to paperwork. Instead, they are bringing real change on the ground by enabling women in both rural and urban areas to contribute to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Women Shaping a New Identity in Uttarakhand
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, women in Uttarakhand are forging a new identity through skill, confidence, and hard work. Stories like that of Kiran Joshi reflect the growing strength of women-led entrepreneurship and the positive impact of inclusive governance.
