Under the “Namakwali” initiative in Dehradun, hill women are distributing their homemade products to various corners of the country. The company primarily prepares salt ground on a traditional stone grinder. The special aspect of this salt is that it is entirely natural and organic. Additionally, the company also produces ghee.

Origins of “Namakwali”: From Concept to Market Launch

Shashi Bahuguna Raturi explains that the idea of “Namakwali” started around 2017 with a few women. Their initial thought was to introduce salt made using a traditional stone grinder to the market. Social media platforms have significantly helped in this endeavor. She mentioned that there are hardly any major cities in India, from Mumbai to Kolkata, where they haven’t supplied their products.

A Legacy of Social Welfare: Shashi Raturi’s Journey Since 1982

Since 1982, Shashi Raturi has been working for the welfare of society. She has worked in various places, from Tehri to Almora, to empower women. She has also undertaken the noble task of opening Balwadi schools to care for children whose mothers are unable to look after them due to work commitments.

She mentioned that the number of women involved in “Namakwali” has increased over the years in response to growing demand and supply.

Diverse Product Range: Traditional Spices and Employment Creation
