Mortal Remains of Martyr Narayan Singh Found After 56 Years, Laid to Rest with Full Military Honors

Chamoli: The last rites of martyr Narayan Singh, a resident of Kolpudi village in Chamoli district, were performed today at his ancestral ghat with full military honors. His nephews, Shri Jaiveer Singh and Shri Sujan Singh, lit the funeral pyre. Hundreds of locals, along with family members, attended the ceremony, which was also graced by Tharali MLA Shri Bhupal Ram Tamta and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shri Abrar Ahmed.

Martyr Narayan Singh Lost His Life in 1968 Air Force Plane Crash

Narayan Singh served as a soldier in the Indian Army and was en route from Chandigarh to Leh on February 7, 1968, when the Indian Air Force plane crashed near Rohtang Pass. All 102 soldiers on board lost their lives. Since then, the army had been conducting search operations. In 2003, the remains of five soldiers were recovered, and in 2018, another body was found. Now, 56 years later, the remains of four more soldiers have been discovered, including that of Martyr Narayan Singh.

Mortal Remains Flown to Gauchar by Helicopter

The mortal remains of Narayan Singh were flown to Gauchar by helicopter on Wednesday and later taken to his ancestral village Kolpudi, where they were handed over to his family. The final rites were conducted with full military honors, and the villagers, filled with pride and sorrow, paid their heartfelt tributes to their brave son.
