Haridwar: Himalayan Expo: Horticulture: Agriculture: A four-day Himalayan MSME Expo kicked off on Friday at the Premnagar Ashram in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Organized by Bharti Media & Events Pvt. Ltd. under the aegis of ‘Vibrant Uttarakhand,’ the exhibition saw enthusiastic participation from local residents and students on its very first day. Horticulture and agriculture departments from several states have also set up stalls at the event.
At the exhibition, products from the agriculture and horticulture departments of states such as Sikkim, Telangana, and Delhi are being showcased alongside local products from Uttarakhand across more than 100 stalls. According to the organizers, workshops and international conferences focused on MSME growth, startups, and modern agricultural techniques will be held at the expo in the coming days.
Shruti Saifai, an official from the Sikkim government’s Horticulture Department, stated that such national platforms offer a significant opportunity to showcase the states’ organic products to the entire country. She noted that this national-level platform has provided a major opportunity to present the state’s organic and horticultural products to a nationwide audience. She has displayed products such as beverages made from organic ingredients and items crafted from special red chilies. Today, these products are gaining popularity not only within the country but across the globe. Such events strengthen trade ties between states and open up new markets for farmers and entrepreneurs.
At the Telangana government’s Horticulture Department stall, visitors are being provided with detailed information about fruits and flowers grown through organic farming. Ravi Nayak, a horticulture official from Telangana, stated that a large number of farmers in the state are reaping significant benefits from organic farming. The state government wishes for farmers in other parts of the country to also cultivate fruits, vegetables, and flowers following the model adopted by Telangana’s farmers. Crops such as eggplant, bottle gourd, tomato, bitter gourd, cauliflower, capsicum, and okra are being cultivated there; none of these vegetables are harmful to health.
Additionally, flowers such as marigolds, roses, and rosemary are being cultivated on a large scale in Telangana. Stalls featuring various local products including chemical-free soups and gulkand have also been set up. The shared objective is to promote these products under one roof and create employment opportunities for people through micro-enterprises.
Speaking to the media, Vivek Chauhan—Secretary of the SIDCUL Manufacturers’ Association and an organizer of the expo—stated that this exhibition would prove highly beneficial for the people of Uttarakhand, local traders, the youth, and new entrepreneurs. Not only are local products from Uttarakhand on display, but departments and companies from approximately six states across the country have also set up their stalls.
He stated that stalls showcasing Ayurvedic and herbal products, food processing, aroma products, Coconut Development Board offerings, handicrafts, and agriculture and horticulture sectors are the main attractions of the expo. He mentioned that special sessions—including seminars, workshops, and international conferences—are being organized throughout the four days of the exhibition. The primary objective of these sessions is to provide information on MSME growth, the agricultural sector, and government schemes, thereby guiding young people who aspire to start new businesses.
