The ceremony included Panchang based time calculations by religious scholars, and was attended by key temple figures including the Kedarnath Rawal and other dignitaries. With chanting of Vedic mantras and traditional observances, the kapat opening schedule was finalised signaling the start of the pilgrimage season.
Char Dham Yatra Preparations Gain Momentum
With the official date announced pilgrims planning the Char Dham Yatra in 2026 are now gearing up for their spiritual journey. The Char Dham Yatra includes visits to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, all located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The temple committee has also released dates for other pilgrimage sites, with Gangotri and Yamunotri expected to open on Akshaya Tritiya (19 April 2026) and Badrinath on 23 April 2026, helping devotees plan their trip in advance.
Ahead of the kapat opening, customary processions and rituals are scheduled. Bhairavnath puja at Omkareshwar Temple is set for 18 April, followed by the departure of the sacred Panchmukhi Doli (palanquin) from Ukhimath on 19 April. This doli will travel via Phata and Gaurikund before reaching Kedarnath Dham on 21 April, a day ahead of the portal opening. Enthusiastic preparations are underway to ensure the pilgrimage route is ready and accessible for devotees.
