Uttarakhand Cabinet, Chakbandi Policy 2026, Mountain Villages: In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand government took an important decision to promote agriculture and control migration in mountain regions. The cabinet approved the Voluntary and Partial Chakbandi Incentive Policy 2026.
Under the policy, the government aims to connect 275 villages from 11 hill districts with the chakbandi scheme over the next five years. Every year, chakbandi work will be carried out in five villages of each district.
Only dispute free villages to be selected
According to the new policy, only dispute free villages will be selected for the scheme. The minimum land area for chakbandi will be 10 hectares. In cases where the land area is less, written consent from at least 25 landholders will be mandatory.
The government has also clarified that the process of land consolidation will be carried out through mutual agreement among landowners.
Under the scheme, farmers themselves will be able to prepare chakbandi plans and submit them to the concerned officials. To ensure proper implementation, the government has formed a High Power Committee at the state level along with district level implementation committees.
Policy aims to strengthen farming and reduce migration
The government believes that the new policy will help promote agriculture, horticulture and other farming based activities in mountain areas. It is also expected to help reduce migration from rural villages by improving agricultural opportunities and rural livelihoods.
Farmers interested in the scheme can apply through the Settlement Officer Chakbandi or Assistant Collector office. The government will review the policy again after three years.
