In Uttarakhand, once the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is implemented, new couples will be required to register their marriage within three months, while for existing couples, the deadline will be six months. Failure to do so will result in them being ineligible for government schemes. This issue was prominently discussed during a review meeting held to formulate the UCC rules. The meeting took place on Friday at Bijapur Guest House, chaired by Chief Secretary Radha Raturi and Uttarakhand UCC Committee member Shatrughna Singh, where the progress of the work so far was also thoroughly discussed. Departments such as Home, Police, Excise, Health, Minority Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies, Culture, Energy, Planning, and Finance have been asked to provide the required data or assistance to the committee promptly.

After the UCC is implemented, it will be crucial to disseminate the rules to the general public so that they can understand and follow them properly. For this, training programs will be conducted from the district level down to the village panchayat level, requiring cooperation from all departments.

Meanwhile, a campaign was launched in Dehradun’s mosques against the Waqf Amendment Act. After Friday prayers, QR codes were scanned, and emails were sent to the JPC. On the appeal of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, the city branch of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind ran the campaign. Ulemas in Dehradun’s mosques gave sermons on the Waqf Amendment Bill, and QR codes were scanned in mosques like Jama Masjid (Paltan Bazaar), Kargi Chowk Muslim Colony, Inamullah Building, Azad Colony, and Bhagat Singh Colony. Video messages were shared by Maulana Abdul Mannan Qasmi, State Secretary of Jamiat, District Vice President Master Abdul Sattar, and City President Mufti Ayaz Ahmad Qari.
