Houselisting: Uttarakhand Census: Cenus 2026: The state government of Uttarakhand is fully prepared to start the houselisting operation for the upcoming Census 2026 from April 25. This phase is an important part of the nationwide Census exercise and will focus on collecting accurate housing information for every household in the state. The exercise aims to record all houses and will help planners and policymakers understand housing conditions and ensure transparent data for future development plans.

New Rule for Vacant Houses

One key update announced by officials is a new procedure for how empty or unattended houses will be treated during the Census survey. If an enumerator finds that a house is truly vacant and no person is found inside it for a period of one month during the houselisting phase then that house will be recorded as locked. This step has been introduced to make sure that houses are not mistakenly counted as inhabited and that the Census data remains accurate and reliable.

Importance of Accurate House Listing

The houselisting phase plays a crucial role in the larger Census plan because correct identification of houses ensures that population enumeration can be done smoothly and without duplication or gaps. In recent years the Census India office has emphasized the accuracy of house records and the use of digital tracking for enumeration activities. Accurate house records will also help in better planning for infrastructure water supply electricity and social services in the state.

Citizens Involvement and Self Enumeration Option

In Uttarakhand citizens are also being informed that before the official operation begins they have the option to self list their house details online on the official Census website. This helps households to proactively provide information that can be verified during the official visit and reduces the work for both residents and enumerators. Officials have urged society members to cooperate with Census teams and provide correct information so that every house in the hilly and plain regions of Uttarakhand is counted correctly.
