Women sports college, Uttarakhand sports, girls education: Uttarakhand is preparing to take a major step towards strengthening women participation in sports and higher education. The state cabinet has approved 16 posts for the operation of the state’s first women sports college, paving the way for academic sessions to begin from July this year. The initiative is being seen as an important milestone for aspiring female athletes across the state
First Women Sports College in the State
The women sports college is being developed in Lohaghat area of and is expected to become a dedicated center for sports education and professional training for girls. The project aims to provide better infrastructure, coaching facilities, and academic support to talented athletes from Uttarakhand and nearby regions.
Cabinet Approves 16 Important Posts
To ensure smooth functioning of the institution, the cabinet has approved 16 posts including principal, teaching staff, and administrative positions. These appointments are expected to help begin the first phase of operations and academic activities from July 2026.
A Major Boost for Women Athletes
The college is expected to provide a professional environment where female athletes can pursue sports along with education. Until now, many players from remote hill regions had limited access to specialized sports training facilities. This institution is expected to bridge that gap and encourage more girls to take sports seriously as a career option.
Modern Infrastructure Under Development
The sports college is being developed with modern infrastructure including football and hockey grounds, volleyball courts, hostels for players, staff quarters, and administrative buildings. The project is estimated to cost around 237 crore rupees and is expected to play a key role in nurturing future national and international athletes from Uttarakhand.
The initiative reflects the Uttarakhand government’s increasing focus on sports development and youth empowerment. In recent years, the state has been investing in sports infrastructure, training facilities, and athlete support programmes to encourage participation at competitive levels. Officials believe the women sports college will further strengthen this vision.
Second Chance for Admissions
Following concerns from players and parents regarding admissions, Sports Minister Rekha Arya also directed officials to provide another opportunity for eligible candidates to apply for admission. This move is expected to benefit more aspiring athletes who may have missed the earlier process.
The beginning of Uttarakhand’s first women sports college marks more than just the launch of an educational institution. It represents a larger vision of empowering young women through sports, education, and opportunity. As classes prepare to start in July, the college is expected to become a new platform where future champions from the hills can shape their dreams.
