Uttarakhand: PLFS Survey: Unemployment: The central government has initiated the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) in Uttarakhand to reveal the true picture of employment and unemployment in the state. The survey will run from February to December 2026 and aims to collect comprehensive data from both rural and urban households on labour market status. Field officers will visit homes to record information on how many people are employed, how many are seeking jobs, and the overall labour force participation. This effort is intended to provide verified and authentic statistics on the state’s job market to guide future policy decisions.
The PLFS being conducted this year will cover people aged 15 to 59 years across all districts of Uttarakhand. It will assess key indicators like unemployment rate, labour force participation rate (LFPR), and worker population ratio (WPR) by collecting detailed information on household employment activities. Survey teams equipped with digital tools will systematically record data on employment status, the number of days worked, hours of work in a week, and income from economic activities. The aim is to deliver accurate, district-level insights into the workforce, which will be shared with both the state and central governments for planning and policy formulation.
Officials say that the PLFS results will help identify the real employment scenario in Uttarakhand, which in turn will support targeted interventions to generate jobs and improve workforce participation. Detailed evidence from the survey can highlight areas of concern such as sectors with low employment absorption and gaps in skills or opportunities. Such evidence will be crucial for policymakers to shape employment schemes, encourage productive investment, and enhance economic development across both hill and plain regions of the state.
